50 Poems In: A Slow Burn Romance (With Words, and With You)

Today I posted my 50th poem.

Halfway through this wild, tender, surprising thing called An Author and Her Dog: 100 Days of Inspirational Words. What started as a challenge has become something far more meaningful. It’s not just about the writing anymore—it’s about the resonance.

When I started, I had 156 followers. Today, I have 356.

200 more in 50 days? It’s a slow burn romance, if I want to put it in bookish terms.
Not explosive. Not viral.
But growing in warmth, depth, and truth.
And so, so gratifying.

Each day, someone sends a word.
One word. That’s all I need.
I take it, hold it up to the light, and shape a poem around it.

And here’s the magic I didn’t expect:

It’s not just your word that enters the poem.
It’s you.
Every comment, every suggestion, every response feels like a quiet bridge between us—telling me as much about you as it does about me.

It’s a shared heartbeat.
A little melting of hearts.
One word at a time.

Sometimes I sit there with the word, not knowing where it will lead.
Sometimes it hits instantly, like lightning.
Sometimes it wrestles me to the floor.
But every time—I write.
And I grow.

50 days in, I’ve written about kindness and chaos. Grief and glitter. Strength, softness, trans rights, and Rabauken. I’ve written poems that hurt and poems that heal.
And each one holds a piece of you.
And, unexpectedly, a piece of me.

So thank you.
Thank you for being part of this strange and lovely creative dance.
Thank you for following, reading, commenting, whispering words into my inbox.

We’re halfway through. All the words are in. I’ve become a strange collector of words.
And I’m not slowing down.
In fact—I think I’m just getting started.
